The main event is finally here! This year’s CU Idol will be the best one yet, and you won’t want to miss it! Come listen to, watch and cheer on 10 contestants who will be singing their hearts out for a chance to win the $1000 grand prize. Join The Herd on March 8th in the Glenn Miller Ballroom at 7 p.m. for some good old fashioned entertainment.
The theme this year is ‘Fallen Stars’. Each contestant must choose a song to sing from a deceased musician, like Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston, or any other!
The ten contestants this year are:
Maite Castagnoli - a freshman and Psychology/Communications major
Robert Collins - a senior and Russian major
Annie Chung - a sophomore and Music (Violin) major
Shane Church - a senior and Psychology major
Kelly Fitzgerald - a sophomore and Communications/Advertising major
Juliet Jung - a sophomore and Undecided
Lileana Krenza - a junior and Poetry and Neuroscience major
Marcus Mares - a senior and Psychology/Communications major
Garrett Smith - a Pre-Med major
Sydney Wilson - a sophomore and Psychology major
CU Idol has three rounds of singing with two intermission acts. After each round the audience can vote for their favorite contestants via text message. The first round, each contestant will sing a song with musical accompaniment. The second round will be a cappella. After the second round, the number of contestants will be cut in half. The third round will consist of another song with musical accompaniment. After the third round, the top three contestants will be announced. The 3rd place prize is $250, followed by the 2nd place prize of $500 and followed by the first place prize of $1000. Each winner must contribute half of the money to the student group of his or her choice.
